Prof. Dr. Engin Ulukaya, 1987 yılında mezun olduğu İstanbul Üniversitesi Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesini takiben Uludağ Üniversitesinde Tıbbi Biyokimya uzmanlığını bitirmiştir. University of Leeds (UK), School of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology’de doktora (PhD) eğitimini tamamlamıştır. Temel kanser araştırmaları, hücre ölümü, kanser ilaç geliştirme, ve kişiye yönelik onkoloji alanlarında çalışmalar yapmaktadır. Moleküler kanser araştırma derneği (MOKAD) başkanlığının yanısıra, EACR (European Association for Cancer Research)’de Konsey Üyesi ve EORTC PathoBiology alt grubu asil üyesidir. Uluslararası dergilerde 137 makale yayınlamıştır (Google Scholar H index: 32, Atıf sayısı: 3385). 2003 yılında Güney Kore’de düzenlenen dünya patoloji ve laboratuvar tıbbı derneği (WASPALM) kongresinde “gelecek vaat eden laboratuvar hekimi” ödülünü almış ve WASPALM madalyasına hak kazanmıştır. Ayrıca 3’ü yurt dışı, 32 adet çeşitli kategorilerde ödülü bulunmaktadır. İstinye Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Dekanlığı görevini yürütmektedir. Ayrıca aynı üniversitenin Moleküler Kanser Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi (İSÜMKAM) Direktörüdür.
